In a solemn address at the annual Youth Convention in Bweranyanyi, Bushenyi district, Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese has expressed deep concern over the increasing levels of indecency, pedophilia, and a lack of patience and respect for elders and leaders among Ugandans.
The bishop emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues that, according to him, have surpassed imagination, as many Ugandans strive to align with Western influences, often neglecting their traditional norms and values.
“This current generation has embraced a culture of self-promotion, deviating from the values that once defined our society,” remarked Rt. Rev. Twinomujuni.
During his sermon, the bishop specifically highlighted the growing cases of indecency, especially among females, noting a shift in behavior compared to earlier generations.
“Unlike before, the youth now engage in behaviors that seem to prioritize self-image over preserving our cultural values,” stated Bishop Twinomujuni.
Expressing his dismay, the bishop also addressed the disturbing rise of pedophilia in the population, urging for collective efforts to curb this concerning trend.
“Pedophilia has started cropping up in our society, and we cannot afford to ignore this serious issue,” emphasized Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni.
In addition to issues of morality, the bishop decried the lack of respect for elders and leaders, impatience among the youth, and the resulting mismanagement of public funds and heinous crimes.
“The erosion of respect for elders and leaders, coupled with impatience, has contributed to the mismanagement of public funds and an increase in criminal activities,” lamented Bishop Twinomujuni.
The annual Youth Convention, held before learners return to school, serves as a platform to rekindle Christian values and morals among the youth.
This year’s theme, “You should not conform to the patterns of the world but be transformed by renewing the mind,” underscored the importance of staying true to one’s values in the face of societal challenges. As Bishop Twinomujuni addresses these pressing concerns, the Youth Convention remains a crucial initiative to instill and reinforce moral and spiritual values among the younger generation in West Ankole Diocese.
