Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of Land Forces in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has presided over the pass-out ceremony of 165 military officers at the School of Infantry in Bihanga, Ibanda District.
Among the officers were five from Burkina Faso and 18 female officers, who completed four months of intensive training to qualify as middle-level commanders.
Gen. Muhanga praised the training program for producing competent commanders equipped to navigate modern battlefield dynamics with discipline and expertise.
He also highlighted the strategic partnership between Uganda and Burkina Faso, expressing gratitude for the exceptional performance of the Burkinabe officers during the training.
“I want to thank the officers from Burkina Faso for excelling during the course. Uganda and Burkina Faso share similar ideologies, and the late Thomas Sankara once visited Uganda,” Gen. Muhanga remarked.
The general urged the graduating officers to uphold discipline, focus on their duties, and continuously seek knowledge for personal and professional growth.
Brigadier General Godfrey Golooba, Commandant of the School of Infantry, emphasized that the course was designed to develop leadership, tactical, and operational skills for middle-level commanders.
He noted that the training included field exercises and guided tours of specialized units, fostering trust and effective communication among the officers.
“The course is operation-heavy, aimed at equipping commanders with broad leadership skills and expertise at the tactical level,” Brig. Gen. Golooba stated.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, including Major General Don Nabasa and Brigadier General Michael Kabango, alongside religious and local leaders.
