President Museveni has expressed confidence in Uganda’s future as a significant global power.

He attributed this belief to the successful hosting of two international conferences: the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77 plus China.

During a televised address on Thursday evening, as the National Resistance Army/Movement (NRA/M) celebrates its 38th victory anniversary, Museveni commended Ugandans for their hospitality towards the visiting delegates.

Museveni shared that a Russian delegate, a deputy Minister, had informed him that only superpowers could successfully organize such conferences.

While acknowledging that Uganda is still on the path to achieving superpower status, Museveni asserted that the foundation for this achievement has already been laid.

The President highlighted the attendance of 1,918 delegates from 129 countries, including sixteen Presidents, nine Vice Presidents, sixteen Prime Ministers, and seven Special category representatives.

These dignitaries arrived in Uganda via airlines and 32 private jets. Museveni emphasized that these countries represent 80% of the global population, amounting to approximately 6.6 billion people.

“In addition to the immense gathering, let us recognize the infrastructure we have developed, partly for this occasion but also to improve our country’s overall infrastructure. Consider the New Terminal constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade and the Conference Centre built by Sudhir’s Company, utilizing government funds,” Museveni stated.

He asserted that there is no task beyond Uganda’s capabilities, emphasising that it is merely a matter of prioritization.

Museveni urged people to acknowledge the progress made in upcountry roads, such as those from Kisoro to Nimule and Busia-Busuunga in Bundibugyo, instead of solely focusing on the potholes in Kampala.

“We possess the capacity to achieve anything without corruption. I have instructed the Engineering Brigade to commence preparations for building the Standard Gauge Railway, rather than solely relying on external assistance,” he declared.

Museveni assured the nation that the government is committed to ensuring the security and well-being of Ugandan citizens, investors, and visitors.

This includes reinforcing the capabilities of security agencies to address emerging threats, addressing discipline issues within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police, and Uganda Prisons Services, enhancing security infrastructure for proactive crime detection, and improving the welfare of security personnel.

The President highlighted the achievements of security interventions, such as anti-livestock theft and disarmament operations in Karamoja, as well as Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He emphasised that the government’s investments in security infrastructure will eliminate the remaining vulnerabilities exploited by ADF terrorists for cowardly attacks on civilians.

“As we commemorate the 38th Anniversary of NRM’s victory, I want to assure everybody, including our visitors and investors, that Uganda will remain a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country,” he reassured.
