NATIONAL | Two school heads from St. Mary’s Junior School, Namirembe, Kapeka, in Nakaseke District have been arrested and remanded to Morikatipe Prison in Tororo after being found in unauthorized possession of Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers.

The teachers, Dennis Juko (headteacher) and Moses Ejangu (director of studies), allegedly posed as Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) examiners and are also accused of disseminating false information.

The duo was arraigned before Tororo Chief Magistrate Doreen Ajuna and charged under Section 25(1) of the Uganda National Examinations Board Act.

They are set to remain in custody until their next court appearance on October 15.

According to police, their arrests followed a complaint filed by Moses Olema, a staff member from Busitema University in Tororo, who alleged that the two attempted to deceive him by claiming involvement in the official exam-setting process.

Upon their arrest, Juko and Ejangu confessed to the crime, attributing their actions to ignorance and pleading for forgiveness.

Moses Mugwe, the Bukedi South Police Spokesperson, confirmed the charges and warned school administrators to remain vigilant, particularly as UNEB prepares to administer this year’s national exams.

He emphasized the need to protect the integrity of the examination process.

UNEB has scheduled a briefing for Primary Seven candidates on November 4, with the PLE exams taking place on November 6 and 7.

This case highlights ongoing challenges in safeguarding the credibility of national examinations in Uganda, prompting authorities to reiterate the importance of vigilance and strict adherence to UNEB regulations.
