The body of the late Francis Onapito Ekomoloit, a former presidential press secretary and board chair of Nile Breweries, has arrived in Soroti after two months of logistical arrangements following his death.
The prolonged delay to lay the late Onapito to rest has been in respect of his will, which spelt out how he had to be buried.
Before his passing, Onapito was serving as board chair of the Soroti Fruit Factory.
A requiem mass is currently underway at St Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti to honour Onapito.
The service has drawn family, friends, dignitaries, and colleagues, all gathered to pay their final respects to a man remembered for his dedication to service and development.
Following the mass, Onapito’s body will be transported to his ancestral home in Asalatap, Wera Sub-county, Amuria District.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 30, in a ceremony expected to attract a significant turnout of mourners from across the country.
Hellen Grace Asamo, the State minister for disability affairs, is the chief mourner at the ceremony.
The late Onapito, who had an illustrious career in both public service and the corporate sector, is celebrated for his leadership and contributions to national development.
His passing marks the end of a life devoted to uplifting others and making impactful changes in Uganda.
Further details about the burial programme and tributes from leaders are expected in the coming days.
