In a significant stride towards enhancing Uganda’s industrial landscape, NEC-Watu, a collaborative effort between the National Enterprise Corporation and Wattu China, has officially inaugurated a car supplier systems and car filter manufacturing branch in Mbale CIty.

This momentous event took place at the Sino Uganda Industrial Park in Mbale City, where a state-of-the-art car supplier system and filter factory have been established.

State Minister for Defense Jacob Oboth Oboth attributed the millstone that aims to produce 15,000 car filters and 3,000 vehicles annually to the growing partnership between Uganda and China.
“This innovation has made a big impact to the automobile industry in Uganda.Government is eager to see more innovations being spread out to the rest of the country,”Oboth Oboth said.

NEC Managing Director Lt Gen James Mugira emphasized the corporation’s unwavering focus on quality, aligning production standards with both local and international benchmarks.

The factory is part of a larger vision to contribute significantly to import substitution, job creation, and overall economic development.

He also highlighted the project’s significance, expressing the corporation’s intent to secure additional land in Mbale for a vehicle assembly plant, complementing the existing one in Namanve.

“This move not only speaks to the scale of the project but also to the long-term commitment to fostering industrial growth in the region,” Lt Gen Mugira said.

QuingShan Liu, the chairperson of WATU, appealed for tax waivers, acknowledging the initial expenses and the need for community support.
