The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Branch in South Africa is set to host its inaugural symposium aimed at attracting investment to Uganda.
The event will take place on September 27-28 in Johannesburg.
This symposium marks a shift from the branch’s previous focus on political mobilization.
According to the branch chairman, Mr Isma Luzige, the conference will offer Ugandans a chance to engage with potential investors from southern Africa about investment opportunities in Uganda.
“Beyond foreign remittances, attracting direct investment and creating employment opportunities are vital for the socio-economic transformation of our homeland,” Luzige said during a press conference at the party’s Secretariat on Kyadondo Road, Nakasero.
President and NRM National Chairman Museveni will be the chief guest, while NRM Secretary General Mr Richard Todwong will serve as a keynote speaker at the symposium.
Awich Pollar, Director of External Affairs at the NRM Secretariat, highlighted the close ties and historical friendship between Uganda and South Africa, which were strengthened during the Anti-apartheid struggles.
“We are now focusing on the economic empowerment of our people in both countries in the spirit of Pan-Africanism,” Counsel Awich said, urging all Ugandans in southern Africa to participate fully in the symposium to seize the available opportunities.
