President Museveni has called for a modern, efficient, and well-equipped Uganda Police Force (UPF) during the 28th Police Council Meeting held today at the Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru.
Addressing key security stakeholders, including the Inspector General of Police, Deputy IGP, Directors, and other senior officials, Museveni highlighted the urgent need to adapt to the ever-evolving security challenges facing Uganda.
The meeting, focused on enhancing the police’s capacity to respond to contemporary threats, underscored the importance of modernizing the force through technology, specialized training, and improved welfare.
Museveni emphasized the need for strategic investments in force multipliers such as canine units, CCTV surveillance, and forensic tools to bolster police operations.
“We must build a police force that is patriotic, professional, and responsive to the needs of our people,” Museveni stated in his keynote address.
“Instead of just increasing numbers, we should focus on technology and specialized training to enhance our effectiveness.”
The gathering, held under the theme “Strengthening Police Capacity to Address Contemporary Policing Challenges for a Safe and Secure Community,” also included discussions on recruitment, training, discipline, promotions, and equipping police officers with the necessary tools for effective policing.
As Uganda faces evolving security threats, the Police Council remains a vital organ for policy development in law enforcement.
The resolutions passed during this meeting are set to guide reforms aimed at improving security across the country.
With the police force’s modernization in mind, President Museveni’s address is expected to lay the foundation for continued progress in strengthening the country’s security framework, ensuring the police remain well-equipped to safeguard Uganda’s citizens.
