Bulambuli farmers face a nightmare as renewed landslides rampage across their fields. Triggered by heavy rains, mudslides have carved through gardens in Buluganya, Bulago, Nabiwutulu, and Sori sub-counties. Crops like coffee, bananas, and vegetables are buried or washed away, jeopardizing the food security and income of this agricultural community. The pain cuts deeper as many had just invested in their land using loans and government funds.

The devastation extends beyond farms. Gimadu Road, a vital artery, is blocked by boulders, hindering movement. Additionally, a water supply scheme serving thousands is disrupted.

This disaster reignites calls for resettlement. Residents, some marked for relocation a year ago, are desperate for a safer haven. A past landslide tragedy where a family perished strengthens their pleas.

The government’s resettlement program offers a glimmer of hope. It involves building houses and providing land and financial aid. However, progress is frustratingly slow, with only a fraction of the planned houses completed. A cash transfer program offers some temporary relief, but a permanent solution is urgently needed.

Bulambuli teeters on a precipice. The relentless landslides and sluggish resettlement efforts leave residents in a precarious situation.
