Residents near the Kiteezi dumpsite, which collapsed three days ago, are urgently appealing to the government to expedite their relocation.

The collapse, which occurred in Nangabo sub-county, Kampala District, resulted in 22 confirmed deaths, with several individuals still missing.

As the holiday season approaches and children return home, the situation is becoming increasingly dire.

Four days have passed since the disaster, and the area around the collapsed landfill remains hazardous and foul-smelling, with vultures circling overhead.

The collapse has left residents in a state of panic and uncertainty, with some gathering in small groups to discuss their next steps amid heightened security.

The local authorities have advised those living within 200 meters of the landfill to evacuate for their safety.

The search for missing bodies continues, with relatives and security personnel working together to locate the victims.

The operation involves eight excavators, but residents believe more effort is needed to reach the covered houses.

Residents who have been affected are pleading with the government to allow them to remain on their land despite the dangers.

Emotions are running high at Kiteezi Primary School, which has become an evacuation center for the victims.

As some mourn their loved ones, others are anxious about the future.

Since its establishment in 1996, Kiteezi landfill has expanded from 4 acres to 36 acres, raising ongoing concerns about its impact on the surrounding community.
