In response to the ongoing Mpox outbreak in Kenya, the country has intensified its efforts to manage the disease. Since the confirmation of Mpox in late July 2024, Kenya has reported 13 cases and one death, prompting health authorities to reinforce surveillance and laboratory capacities.
The World Health Organization (WHO), with the support of USAID Kenya, have delivered a substantial batch of diagnostic kits, viral transport media, and other essential supplies to aid the country’s response.
The diagnostic kits, capable of testing up to 2,700 samples, will significantly bolster the country’s ability to detect and control the spread of Mpox.
The Kenyan government is working closely with WHO and USAID to contain the outbreak and prevent further fatalities. Enhanced measures include increased surveillance across affected regions, testing of suspected cases, and public health education on preventing transmission.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that has garnered global attention in recent years due to sporadic outbreaks. The efforts of WHO, USAID, and the Kenyan health authorities are vital in ensuring that the outbreak is contained before it spreads further.
Kenya remains committed to safeguarding public health and ensuring swift action to mitigate the impact of Mpox on its population.
