The acting executive director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Frank Rusa has highlighted the authority’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with frontline workers, emphasising their crucial role in maintaining a clean and sustainable city.
Speaking during the KCCA end of year presser, Rusa outlined significant progress in service delivery and the welfare of workers.
“Our relationship with our frontline workers is at its all-time best as we have worked to fast track their payments on time. We believe these individuals do a great job in keeping our city clean, and their wellbeing should be our topmost priority,” Rusa stated.
Rusa also emphasised KCCA’s dedication to supporting workers in key roles such as waste management, road maintenance, and traffic management.
He highlighted KCCA’s recent efforts towards sustainability, including the acquisition of a 230-acre land in Nsujju, Mpigi district, to establish a new waste management site that will replace the outdated Kiteezi landfill.
“We have successfully acquired a 230-acre piece of land in Nsujju Mpigi district off Mityana Road, approximately 27 kilometers from the city center, to establish a new, more sustainable waste management site to resolve the waste management issues across the city,” Rusa explained.
In addition to waste management, KCCA has made notable progress in improving traffic flow within the city.
Two junctions Mulago and Kubiri are now operational, with 18 others undergoing testing. Rusa highlighted that these initiatives are vital for enhancing mobility and reducing congestion.
“Our goal to operationalize 20 junctions has had two junctions (Mulago and Kubiri) operationalized and 18 under testing. The smooth flow of traffic at these 2 junctions that have been improved is an indicator of signalization that will improve mobility in the City,” Rusa added.
Furthermore, KCCA continues to make strides in road rehabilitation.
Key roads such as Kampala Road, Rashid Khamis, and Yusuf Lule have seen the elimination of potholes and significant infrastructure improvements.
These efforts are part of the broader Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP), which aims to enhance road infrastructure throughout the city.
Regarding revenue collection, Rusa noted that KCCA has achieved 85.7% of the target for the fiscal year 2024/25, collecting Shs 27 billion out of a Shs 31 billion target by the end of November 2024.
This success reflects the effectiveness of KCCA’s revenue mobilization strategies and the collaboration of residents and partners.
“I thank all those that have made good their payments in time and appeal for compliance by all contributors to support service delivery in the city,” Rusa said.
