The Administrators of Kasana-Luweero Diocese are struggling to raise funds for the consecration and installation of the third Bishop. In April this year, Pope Francis appointed Monsignor Lawrence Mukasa who has been the Vicar General of the Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese as the third bishop of the Kasana-Luweero Diocese.
Monsignor Mukasa will be consecrated and installed as Bishop on Saturday, August 5th, 2023. The ceremony will be presided over by Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese. Kasana Luweero Diocese established 10 committees to organize the function that will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace Cathedral in Luweero town council.
Rev. Father Joseph Kakooza Nyanzi, the Chairperson of the Episcopal Consecration and Installation Organizing Committee says that they drafted a budget of Shillings one billion to organize a colorful event for 15,000 expected guests. Kakooza adds that they have so far managed to raise Shillings 600 million leaving a balance of Shillings 400 million needed to facilitate several activities. He explains that due to financial constraints, they intend to revisit the budget and drop some activities.
The funds are intended to cater for Meals and renovation of Bishop House and offices. Others are hiring tents, a public address system, and decorations among other activities. Monsignor Francis Xavier Mpanga, the Diocesan Administrator has since appealed to Christians and other well-wishers to donate funds so as to enable them to organize a colorful event.
According to the church program, Monsignor Mukasa is expected to leave Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese on Saturday 5th August at 5 am and officially received in Kasana Luweero-Diocese at Lumansi swamp along Kampala-Gulu highway. Monsignor Mukasa will lead a convoy and make stopovers at Kalule and Katikamu parishes before he makes his way to Our Lady of Fatima, Queen of Peace Cathedral for consecration and installation as Bishop of the Diocese.
He is expected to lead his first mass as Bishop on Sunday, August 6th a day after his installation as Bishop. Kasana-Luweero Diocese has been without a Bishop since 2021 when Pope Francis appointed Bishop Paul Ssemogerere as Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese. The elevation of Ssemogerere, who had served as the second Bishop of Kasana-Luwero since 2008, followed the demise of Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga in April 2021.
