The ongoing maintenance of the Kampala-Jinja Highway is expected to be completed soon, according to State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama.
Speaking before the Government Assurance Committee of Parliament, chaired by Mityana South MP Joyce Bagala, Byamukama assured legislators that the works were in their final stages.
He explained that the maintenance is part of a routine effort to improve the road’s condition and ease the heavy traffic congestion that has frustrated motorists.
Acknowledging concerns over delays, Byamukama said the contractor had been advised to prioritize night-time work to minimize disruptions.
“We have advised the contractor to consider working at night to reduce the impact on traffic flow,” Byamukama said.
“We expect the works to be completed soon, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused to road users.”
Lugazi Municipality MP Stephen Sserubula had earlier expressed frustration over the slow progress, highlighting the severe congestion caused by the roadworks.
Byamukama’s assurances aimed to allay these concerns and reaffirm the government’s commitment to timely completion.
The Kampala-Jinja Highway is a critical transport corridor linking the capital to eastern Uganda.
The minister emphasized that once completed, the maintenance will enhance road conditions and reduce travel times for commuters and businesses alike.
