The Special Forces Command soldier who attacked and killed a family of four and injured will today know his fate.

Pte Herbertson Birivumbuka walked into the home of Isaac Isabirye Mudhasi, 42, who was found eviscerating chicken for a visitor and opened fire on the family members in Mayuge District in eastern Uganda.

According to Mirabu Namukose, who had visited, Mudhasi and two of his daughters Elesi Kafuko, 15, Resty Kantono, 13, and a son Nicholus Mudhasi, 6, were killed on the spot, while his wife and four other family members sustained serious injuries.

On Tuesday, Pte Borivumbuka who had earlier denied the charges turned around to plead guilty to the charges of murder and attempted murder  before the division court marital of SFG1 sat at Buwaya sub county headquarters in Mayuge district.

In his mitigation on Wednesday, Pte Birivumbika told the court chaired by  Lt Col Moses Nabasa that he was sorry for what happened.

He narrated that Mudhasi caused the imprisonment of his dad on trumped up defilement charges  as well as many other “atrocities” committed against his family.

“I ask the family I hurt that whatever happened I am sorry. I pray for forgiveness. It might be hard from your side but I was also feeling hurt,” Pte Birivumbuka said on Wednesday afternoon.

Telling court that he doesn’t have a criminal record in the past, he asked for lenience from the army court.

“This is my  first time to be taken to court for any matter. I promise if you give me a chance will never repeat it.”

Pte Birivumbika was charged of murder and attempted murder as well as conspiracy to commit a felony, a charge he shares with three civilians including Patrick Tagaba, Sharifu Modasi and Meddie Muwumbia.
