Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Donald Muhwezi has clarified that the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) operates like any other security agency, with its primary role being the protection of people and their property.
“JATT is a security apparatus like others, mandated to ensure the safety of citizens and their property. Its operations align with the collective goal of securing the country,” he said.
JATT, a specialised unit under Uganda’s security structure, has often been associated with counter-terrorism efforts. However, SSP Muhwezi’s remarks come amid growing public interest in its operations and mandate.
While he did not delve into specific activities, he reiterated that all security organs, including JATT, work under established legal frameworks to safeguard national stability.
The clarification is expected to address concerns and speculations surrounding JATT’s role, reinforcing its position as part of Uganda’s security architecture.
