Hima Cement has announced its active involvement in the investigation of a counterfeit cement operation uncovered in Luweero District on April 5, 2025.
The operation, which led to the arrest of several suspects, is part of a growing crackdown on fake cement products that have infiltrated the Ugandan market, posing significant risks to public safety and industry integrity.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the raid in Luweero resulted in the discovery of counterfeit cement being distributed to local vendors and construction sites.
Hima Cement has since expressed its full support for the police’s swift and thorough action in addressing this illegal activity.
“We commend the Uganda Police Force for their immediate response and commitment to bringing those involved in this dangerous practice to justice,” said Philemon Mubiru, Head of Innovation and Marketing at Hima Cement.
“Ensuring the safety of our customers and upholding the integrity of our products remains our top priority.”
Hima Cement, a leading player in the Ugandan cement industry, is working closely with the authorities, having dispatched its technical teams to assist in the ongoing investigations.
The company is committed to maintaining high-quality standards across all of its products and operations, with a strong focus on customer safety.
In line with the investigations, Hima Cement has also urged consumers and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected counterfeit products.
Customers can reach out to the company’s helpline at 0312 213100/200 or via email at hima.kampala@himacement.com.
The company also encourages people to report any suspected cases directly to the police.
Carol Kezabu, Hima Cement’s communications manager, further emphasized the company’s commitment to combating counterfeit products in the market, highlighting the risks these substandard products pose to the safety and well-being of consumers.
“We strongly condemn these illegal activities that endanger lives and undermine the trust our customers place in our brand,” she said.
This crackdown on counterfeit cement comes as part of a larger effort by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) to safeguard the quality of construction materials in the country.
UNBS recently launched a nationwide campaign to combat the proliferation of fake cement and other substandard construction materials, which have caused serious concerns among builders and consumers alike.
The campaign, backed by both Hima Cement and other industry leaders, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of counterfeit products and provide a clear path for reporting and removing such products from the market.
As a company that has been operating in Uganda since 1994, Hima Cement remains dedicated to ensuring the availability of reliable and high-quality cement products.
The company, which has production facilities in Kasese, Tororo, and Namanve, produces over 2 million tons of cement annually, serving not only the Ugandan market but also exporting to neighboring countries like South Sudan, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Hima Cement’s ongoing collaboration with authorities reflects its commitment to supporting the efforts to eradicate counterfeit products from the market, ensuring that only the highest quality materials are used in construction across Uganda and the East African region.
