IGANGA | The government has been urged to conduct a forensic audit of all Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries to ensure that funds are channeled to the rightful recipients.
During a mobilization meeting organized by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party at Mum Resort Hotel in Iganga, Member of Parliament for Bunya West, Aggrey Bagiire, expressed concerns about corruption leading to the misallocation of funds intended for the PDM program in the Busoga region.
Mr Bagiire said reports indicating Shs16.7 billion was distributed to PDM beneficiaries are misleading, as many individuals are still living in poverty, just as they were before the program’s implementation.
He called on the government to carry out a forensic audit and ensure that all officials found guilty of embezzling PDM funds are arrested and prosecuted in court for corruption.
Additionally, Bagiire urged district leaders to implement resolutions made by the president to instill public confidence.
He criticized the Fisheries Protection Unit operating along the shores of Lake Victoria for frequent arrests and alleged torture of fishermen, warning that such actions could jeopardize the ruling NRM party’s chances of garnering votes in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.
NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja noted that the party has initiated countrywide mobilization meetings to address the reasons behind their lack of majority votes in the Busoga region during the 2021 presidential elections.
Namayanja announced plans to hold public forums (baraza) across the Busoga subregion to gather insights from local communities at the grassroots level.
Also present at the meeting was NRM Director of Mobilization Rose Mary Seninde, among other officials.
