The Ministry of Internal Affairs has said it is currently stuck with 15,000 passports in the system after their owners provided wrong details.
This means the passports which are not yet completed are clogging the system as owners are not aware that there is no headway.
Internal Affairs spokesperson, Simon Mundeyi said this state of affairs has been brought by individuals who while filling in the passport application form online, fill in wrong details.
“Many of these 15,000 passports that we are stuck with are on account of mistakes made by applicants. For example, many parents who apply for their children’s passports put in their own names in the system instead of the children’s,” Mundeyi said.
He said that when one applies for a passport, the information provided is verified before the document is processed.
According to Mundeyi, for one to process a passport for their children, the birth certificate of the child is needs and copies of national IDs for both parents.
Mundeyi noted that they also have over 3000 applications from Ugandans seeking to apply for wrong passports.
He explained that most of these are by ordinary Ugandans who apply for diplomatic passports yet they don’t qualify to get them.
Internal Affairs spokesperson urged those who provided wrong details to apply afresh for passports but also make fresh payments.
“Providing incorrect information will require one to submit a new application with fresh payments. You can write to the Commissioner in charge of domestic taxes at URA for a refund .”
