The Archbishop of Uganda the most Rev. Dr. Kazimba Mugalu has consecrated and officially enthroned Rt Rev Paul Hannington Ssuubi as the first Bishop of the newly created East Busoga Diocese which was carved out of Busoga Diocese
This brings a total to three dioceses in Busoga sub-region and it is the 39th diocese under the Church of Uganda.
It was all joy and happiness at Naluwerere Primary playground in Bugiri Municipality as Christians and the clergy witnessed the consecration of Rt Rev Paul Hannington Ssuubi as the first Bishop of the newly created East Busoga Diocese which was carved out Busoga Diocese
The colourful function which attracted several members of the house of Bishops was presided over by the Archbishop of Uganda the Most Rev. Dr Kazimba Mugalu.As by law under the Church, the Bishop elect first took an oath to serve the Church of Uganda faithfully.
Other procedures taken included abdication of this area by the Bishop of Busoga Rt Rev Paul Naimanye and the official declaration of East Busoga as a new Diocese by the Archbishop
After these steps, the Archbishop enthroned Rt Rev Paul Hannington Ssuubi as the first Bishop of Busoga and he was welcomed and congratulated by fellow bishops who were in attendance.
In his speech , Dr. KaziImba Mugalu encouraged Christians in that area to work with the new Bishop to develop the newly born Diocese.
“I know Paul Hannington Ssuubi as an able man whom i once worked with in Mukono therefore you need to support him, give him financial support and also pray for him,” said KazIimba
He also asked Christians to pray for peace in the world especially in the war ravaged countries.
Bishop Hannington Suubi shall oversee two districts including Bugiri and Namayingo and in his acceptance speech pointed at key areas of focus when he start doing his pastoral work.
In his message read by the First Deputy Prime Minister also Minister for East African community affairs Rebecca, President Museveni congratulated Bishop Hannington Ssuubi for this milestone and encouraged him to use his pastoral authority to empowering Christians.
Leaders in Busoga applauded the Church of Uganda for creating more dioceses which they say brings services nearer to the people
