The Bank of Uganda (BoU) Deputy Governor, Michael Atingi-Ego, has officially handed over newly renovated and constructed healthcare facilities and essential medical equipment worth over shs 500 million to Magoro Health Centre III in Katakwi District.

The initiative included the refurbishment of an Outpatient Department (OPD) building, originally established in 1949 as a colonial dispensary, alongside the construction of a new OPD block and a modern maternity wing.

These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the quality of healthcare services offered at the facility.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Atingi-Ego emphasized the importance of healthcare infrastructure in improving maternal and child health outcomes.

“Access to modern and efficient healthcare facilities is vital for maternal and child health. By supporting Magoro Health Centre III, we hope to bring essential healthcare services closer to the people, ensuring mothers and children in Katakwi can receive the care they need without the stress of traveling long distances,” he said.

The newly constructed maternity block is set to address persistent challenges in maternal and child health services within the district.

For years, inadequate healthcare infrastructure in Katakwi has forced residents to seek medical services far from home.

The upgraded facilities will now provide critical services, including antenatal care, deliveries, and immunizations, within the community.

Atingi-Ego also reiterated BoU’s commitment to social responsibility, highlighting the broader impact of their community-focused initiatives.

“We aim to uplift communities by investing directly in the lives and futures of Ugandans. In this way, we are not just your central bank; we are your partner in building a stronger, healthier Uganda,” he stated.

The upgraded facilities and new equipment represent a significant step forward in healthcare provision for thousands of residents who rely on Magoro Health Centre III.

This intervention aligns with Uganda’s broader goal of improving healthcare access in underserved rural areas and demonstrates the collaborative effort needed to ensure no one is left behind.

With the enhancements, Magoro Health Centre III is better positioned to meet the health needs of its community, marking a milestone in BoU’s corporate social responsibility efforts to improve lives across the country.
