The Bank of Uganda (BoU) has underscored its commitment to improving healthcare in Uganda with the donation of a fully equipped theatre to Kigorobya Health Centre IV in Hoima District.

The theatre, part of BoU’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, is expected to bolster surgical services, particularly in maternal and child health, by providing much-needed facilities for surgical interventions.

The handover ceremony, held at the health facility, was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Diane Atwine, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and Dr Michael Atingi-Ego, deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda.

In her remarks, Dr Atwine expressed deep appreciation for the Bank’s generous contribution, acknowledging the transformative impact the theatre will have on local healthcare services.

“We sincerely thank the Bank of Uganda for this invaluable support. This theatre will play a pivotal role in saving lives and significantly improving surgical services at Kigorobya HCIV,” she said.

Dr Atwine also called on health workers to respect the efforts made to establish such essential facilities, stressing the importance of service delivery.

“It’s critical that healthcare workers remain present during their shifts and dedicate themselves to saving lives. Moonlighting should not compromise service delivery,” she urged, reinforcing the need for accountability and dedication in healthcare.

Dr Atingi-Ego, Deputy Governor of BoU, highlighted the Bank’s ongoing dedication to addressing Uganda’s healthcare challenges through strategic partnerships.

“This theatre, now in the hands of the committed staff and the community of Kigorobya Health Centre IV, marks the 12th health facility supported by our CSR programme. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to improving maternal and child health across Uganda,” he said.

In a further effort to enhance healthcare services, the Ministry of Health is introducing QR codes in health facilities to gather client satisfaction feedback.

Dr Atwine encouraged the public to actively participate in this initiative, saying, “Be our eyes. Share feedback where improvements are needed. Together, we can enhance healthcare for all.”

The new theatre is expected to dramatically reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the region by offering timely surgical interventions and improving overall health outcomes.

Additionally, it will relieve pressure on referral hospitals by addressing local surgical needs directly within the community.

This milestone underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing healthcare in Uganda. It also serves as a testament to the shared responsibility of stakeholders in ensuring that quality, accessible healthcare is available to all Ugandans.
