Every revival that has come to God’s people is proceeded by prayer. God’s answer through the out pouring of the Holy Spirit is often to a relentless call on His name by his people. The promise by the Father to pour out His spirit on all flesh – Joel Ch2: V28, in most cases starts with a particular geographical area.
One of the memorable revivals of the 20th Century has been attributed to Duncan Campbell of Scotland. Without any shadow of doubt, this revival would not have come but for the prayers of two blind sisters – one of 84, and another of 82. More striking than their frailty and age is the intensity of the burden and prayers of these two holy women in their small, old cottage.
One day, however, that stands out of the calendar of that time, the two blind sisters got on their knees to pray at 10 o’clock in the evening and got up from their knees at 10 O’clock in the morning.
And as sure as God is God, He responded; not necessarily that night of fervent prayer, but another night. A vision came to one of the sisters and she saw a strange preacher addressing a crowd of people in their old church that had hitherto been empty. It is the emptiness of this church that had brought a burden to the two blind sisters to pray for a revival.
One event led to another and this strange preacher in the vision eventually came to the Island of Lewis. This was Duncan Campbell who is always linked to the Revival of Scotland from 1949 – 1952.
